With Khmer New Year happening in two weeks, an exodus leaving Phnom Penh is expected, prompting the temporary opening of the soon-to-be completed flyover to relieve traffic congestionThe new Morodok Techo flyover in Phnom Penh, which is 80 percent complete, has been opened temporarily to ease traffic ahead of the upcoming Khmer New Year.
With the temporary opening on Monday, traffic congestion was eased near the Kbal Thnal area leading to Aeon Meanchey.
Khmer New Year, which falls on April 13 through April 16, will see scores of people leaving Phnom Penh for their hometowns.
The total construction of the overpass is expected to finish in 2025 at a cost of $36 million.
