The Ministry of Public Works has started the registration of road systems nationwide to ensure the efficient management of repair and maintenance work. Ministry secretary of state Lim Sidenin, who chaired a meeting yesterday with officials from the capital and provincial Departments of Public Works, said the aim of the meeting was to get the latest update of the road system last year. “The ministry is updating the list of national, provincial and other roads under its management and compiling a comprehensive road network map to ensure effective and efficient management,” he said. “Once completed, the comprehensive road network map will facilitate the efficient management, repair and maintenance of roads,” Sidenin said. The meeting focused on reviewing and revising the inventory of roads under their jurisdiction, to fill in any gaps raised by stakeholders, to zone all roads in accordance with the set standards and to check all road markings and street numbers on the list. In the meeting, officials were also asked to provide additional comments on the draft map data as well as clarify the roads under its jurisdiction to ensure that the inventory list is updated and mapped the network of national, provincial and other roads. Minister of Public Works Sun Chanthol has requested that all departments and stakeholders adjust road repair procedures in order to rehabilitate, build and maintain the road network to best meet the needs of the people. He also asked officials to monitor traffic lights and signs along the roads to ensure clarity and avoid any accidents. Regarding construction and restoration of roads, he said contracted companies must adhere to technical standards to ensure the quality of the roads so that they can be used for a long time, and to reduce the national budget.
