AKP Phnom Penh, May 12, 2025 -- The construction of the Chak Angre Krom–Prek Pra concrete bridge over the Tonle Bassac River in Phnom Penh has reached 33.5 percent completion as of early May, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).The US$60 million project officially broke ground on Feb. 19, 2024, under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, and former Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wentian. The bridge, measuring 845.7 metres in length and 27 metres in width, will connect Khan Meanchey and Khan Chbar Ampov. It also includes 804.3 metres of connecting roads. The project, undertaken by Shanghai Construction (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., is scheduled for completion in 42 months and is funded through a concessional loan from China. Upon completion, the bridge is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, particularly on the Preah Monivong Bridges. The Chak Angre Krom–Prek Pra Bridge will be the eighth bridge spanning rivers in Phnom Penh. The seven existing ones are: Cambodia-Japan Chroy Changvar Friendship Bridge, Cambodia-China Chroy Changvar Friendship Bridge, Preah Monivong Bridge (1), Preah Monivong Bridge (2), Prek Pnov Bridge, Russey Keo cable-stayed Bridge, and Koh Pich-Koh Norea cable-stayed Bridge.
