To enhance competitiveness, economic growth and Cambodian living standards, Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF) Aun Pornmoniroth shared inputs and issued directions to promote public work and the transportation sector at the result summary and work direction conference of the Ministry of Public Work and Transport (MPWT) on Thursday.
“Though Covid-19 is waning, fluctuations in the global economy and political geography continue to affect the Cambodian economic revival and development,” Pornmoniroth said.
“The Royal Government considers transport infrastructure, multi-way transportation and logistics as priorities in the national economic development policy and for contribution to the country’s international competitive ability, economic reform and foreign direct investment,” the Minister said.
Pointing to incomplete projects, presented in the result summary last year, he asked the MPWT to resolve issues and complete all projects of strategic importance on time to revive and promote economic growth.
Pornmoniroth said Prime Minister Hun Sen encourages ministries and other institutions to turn challenges into opportunities by accelerating deep reforms, enhancing the business atmosphere and strengthening the competitiveness of Cambodia, and made 11 recommendations to the ministry.It included close collaboration with the Supreme National Economic Council (SNEC) to complete master plans for Cambodia’s inter-way transportation system, promote cross-border transportation by finding win-win solutions with the neighbouring countries, solves traffic jams and improves physical structure at Mokbai-Bavet, Poipet – Aranyaprathet international gateways, as well as promote discussion with Vietnam and Thailand to enhance international gateway operation at Prey Vor, Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ian.
He also asked the MPWT to continue the construction of current projects on priority and complete them as planned, and speed up the third economic pole, Phnom Penh-Siem Reap Expressway which will offer benefits and socio-economic efficiency.
The minister also supported the restoration and construction of national roads and bridges in provinces that connect domestically and internationally. The ministry should think of the negative effects of climate change as a factor while constructing them, he added.
