As Battambang City moves towards its development into a smart city, the provincial administration is implementing changes. Part of the change is the relocation of warehouses to be relocated away from the city.
According to the Facebook post of Soeum Bun, Deputy Governor and Spokesperson of Battambang Provincial Hall, on May 2, warehouse owners had one year to relocate to new locations outside the city.
The Battambang Provincial Administration has decided to require the owners of companies located in all towns to cease operations and relocate to the suburbs. The notice continued that warehouse owners had until April 2023 to relocate.
The action was taken due to the complaints of the residents in towns and the capital pertaining to the heavy trucks that are overweight travelling through the streets to and from warehouses. The trucks caused road damage causing the administration to take legal actions.
Battambang Provincial Administration added that during the period of opportunity to relocate the warehouse to the suburbs, all warehouse owners must shift from transporting goods by trucks to transporting by minivans, except if the load weighs more than 16 tons.
