State-owned Phnom Penh Autonomous Port’s revenue for August dropped eight percent to $3.2 million last year, in line with the prevailing top line contraction in the eight-month period Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) revenue for August slipped seven percent to $3.4 million with port operations, its largest revenue generator dipping seven percent year-on-year (YoY), its filing with Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) showed yesterday. Based on the data, income from port operations stood at $3 million compared to $3.2 million a year ago, although fees from port authority activities and other services rose four percent and 24 percent to $428,084 and $15,683, respectively. For the eight-month period ended August 31, 2023, revenue retreated nine percent YoY to $23.4 million from $25.6 million, as port operation income reduced 12 percent to $19.8 million from $22.6 million in the corresponding period last year. Last week, the inland port revealed that container throughput fell 4.3 percent YoY to 42,902 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in August from 44,817 TEUs. The port’s cargoes and gas fuel tonnage, however, grew 7.9 percent to 357,673 tonnes from 331,528 tonnes in the same period last year. Similarly, cargo vessels calling on the port expanded 10.1 percent to 218 vessels compared to 198 in August last year, with passenger boats and passenger numbers up eight times to 34 and 344.4 percent to 1,249 persons, respectively, last year. For the cumulative eight months, the state-owned river port posted a 10.1 percent drop in container throughput at 269,010 TEUs as opposed to 299,379 TEUs in the same period in 2022. Barring container throughput figures, the port experienced growth in the other segments including cargoes and gas fuel tonnage, rising marginally to 2.81 million tonnes in the period from 2.79 million tonnes. The port registered a 19.2 percent increase in cargo vessels to 3,088 voyages from 2,588 voyages last year, while passenger boats and passenger numbers went up 50 times to 299 boats and nearly 28 times to 12,090 persons compared to 2022. At the time of writing, PPAP was up 0.1 percent at 14,020 riel with 136 shares traded for a full market capitalisation of approximately 290 billion riel ($70.1 million).
