The expressway connecting Phnom Penh to Bavet City, will officially commence on June 7, 2023.
According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) on April 21, Prime Minister Hun Sen will preside over the ground-breaking ceremony for the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway.
Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport said that the expressway is about 138 kilometres long and will include a long bridge across the Mekong River. The bridge and the connecting road will cover a span of about 5 kilometres.
The senior minister said that the planned budget is about $1.638 million, which is less than Sihanoukville, xpressway but the length of the road is also shorter than the Sihanoukville Expressway. According to the senior minister, this road is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027.
Chanthol said the expressway is very important in connecting China from Burma to Thailand to Cambodia and Vietnam.
