Pov Maly, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, said that the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in Cambodia has increased by 1,153 percent.The secretary of state made the statement at the workshop on the collection of input for the draft policy for the development of electric vehicles with the participation of nine inter-ministerial working groups, representative bodies of governors of 25 capital-provincial and development partners.
Maly said on December 5 that as of October 2022, Cambodia has recorded 625 units of EVs, which is an increase of 5,582 percent compared to 2021. The Royal Government has agreed in principle with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and lead inter-ministerial working groups to formulate national regulations, policies and strategies for the management and development of electric vehicles in Cambodia.
The secretary of state said that the Ministry is currently preparing a draft national policy on EVs, which includes encouraging electric vehicle users, compiling legal documents to support technical standards, roadmap preparation in setting up support infrastructure and encouraging the assembly and production of electric vehicles in Cambodia.
