The Public Works Ministry plans to build two more bridges, one across the Mekong river in Kratie province and one across the Bassac river in Chak Angre Krom commune, in Phnom Penh. The ministry also plans to rebuild or upgrade several inter-provincial national roads.In his speech during the inauguration of National Road 11 yesterday in Svay Rieng province, Transport Minister Sun Chanthol said that the construction of those bridges and roads will start in the near future.
In addition to the forthcoming projects, the minister also said that the construction of roads in Siem Reap city, the Phnom Penh-Preah Sihanouk Expressway and Phnom Penh Beltway 3 are well underway to being built and will be completed in the near future.Minister Chanthol thanked the Chinese government for providing funding, grants and technical support to Cambodia with the objective of helping the country to develop its transport infrastructure.
He also thanked the authorities in Prey Veng and Tboung Khmum province and the people in those provinces for cooperating with the ministry, by selling their land for the construction of the road.
According to Chinese Ambassador Wang Wentian, who was joined the inauguration ceremony, China has helped Cambodian people to build eight bridges and 3,000 kilometres of roads across the country.
