The Inter-ministerial Committee meeting for the preparation of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on ASEAN in 2017

On February 06, 2017, at Ministry of Public Works and Transport, H.E. Sun Chanthol led a meeting of the inter-ministerial committee to discuss the progress of preparations for the World Economic Forum meeting on ASEAN that Cambodia is scheduled to host on the 10th, 11th and 12th of May, 2017. The theme for this World Economic Forum will be: Youth, Technology and Growth.

The Minister pointed out that WEF on ASEAN 2017 will bring approximately 700 business and political leaders, civil society, and academia to Cambodia. Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia will preside over the opening ceremony of this very important global forum.
Besides the programs to be held in the capital, there will also be optional visits to Angkor Wat temple site in Siem Reap province for delegates attending the World Economic Forum.

This will be a wonderful opportunity for the country to showcase one of the world’s great wonders and promote Cambodian culture and history. The Minister thanked Air Asia Airlines for their gracious and generous sponsorship involving the transporting of these delegates of the World Economic Forum to Siem Reap from Phnom Penh.
Minister Sun also briefed the meeting on the achievements achieved in Davos. It is with pride to note that Cambodia is the first country in Asia to become a member in the WEF Blended Finance Program which is a funding mechanism to help Cambodia’s infrastructure development and there will further discussion on this theme in the World Economic Forum held in Cambodia in May.

An advance team from WEF will also visit Cambodia at the end of February 2017 to visit various venues for this event.
