Courtesy call and Signing Ceremony of a Memorandum of Cooperation on Cambodia Sewage Treatment System Development, with Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism of Japan

On 15 February 2017, Tokyo, Japan, H.E. Tauch Chankosal, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) of the Kingdom of Cambodia, led the Cambodian delegation to pay a courtesy call to the Director General of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT), H.E. Naoki Fujii, to discuss ongoing and future cooperation and relations between the two Ministries and the status of various projects and technical support provided by JICA in Cambodia.

H.E. Tauch expressed his appreciation and thanks to JICA and MLIT for the invitation, ongoing support and assistance in helping enhance Cambodia’s transport and infrastructure development including the improvement of the vehicle registration and inspection administration systems and the traffic road safety issues in Cambodia.

The Ministry sought continued support and technical assistance from MLIT, through the JICA projects, to increase security on our IT systems and information on vehicle registration, to develop technical standard for vehicle inspections and technical regulations for calibration of vehicle inspection equipment including inspection quality standards, and capacity building for staff including mechanic training.

H.E. Naoki Fujii took notes of the requests and pledged to continue to support MPWT through the JICA projects so as to improve traffic road safety and the implementation and procedures for vehicle registration and inspection in Cambodia. He also agreed to provide more opportunities for vehicle technicians from MPWT to attend related training courses in Japan to improve their capacity.

On the occasion of this official visit, HE. Tauch Chankosal, on behalf of H.E. Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between MLIT of Japan and MPWT of Cambodia to improve the Sewage Treatment System Development in Cambodia.

H.E Shinsuke Suematsu, State Minister of MLIT confirmed his commitment to provide support and assist in moving forward Sewage Treatment System Development in Cambodia. In addition, he pledged to consider the requests from MPWT in relation to the Vehicle Inspection and Registration Administration Improvement project, expressway project from Phnom Penh to Bavet, Port EDI project and terminal improvement for Sihanouk Autonomous Port, Logistics project, Phnom Penh Urban Railways Development project, AGT project, and Capacity building for MPWT’s staff in the transport sector.
